The first salmon of the season in Cantabria, traditionally known as "campanu", was caught late in the afternoon this Saturday in the Nansa river, in the area called "El Bejarucu". The specimen, weighing 4,720 grams and 79 centimeters in length, was fished by the local from El Peral (Rivadedeva, Asturias) Alfonso Caso.

According to details provided by the Government of Cantabria, the "campanu" has taken longer than usual to appear this year, since the fishing season in the Cantabrian rivers began last May 1st.

The salmon will be auctioned this Sunday, May 31st, in an event scheduled from 8:00 p.m. at the Nuevo Molino restaurant in Puente Arce (Piélagos).

The auction is promoted by the Piélagos City Council and has the collaboration of the Department of Rural Development, Livestock, Fishing and Food, as stated by the regional Executive.

The event will once again bring together in Piélagos fishermen, enthusiasts, and the general public around the capture of the first salmon of the year, in an event that combines tradition, gastronomy, and the promotion of Cantabria's natural heritage.
