Ovipor S.C.A. has celebrated its Ordinary General Assembly this Wednesday, in which the balance of the 2025 financial year has been presented to the partners. The cooperative has reported that its global turnover has reached 26.4 million euros, representing an increase of 12% compared to the previous year.
This result "confirms the positive evolution" of the entity in a "complex" year, conditioned by "health, climatic, and productive difficulties," although also by the "good performance" of several of its main business areas. During the meeting, the annual accounts, the proposal for the application of results, the audit report, and the main lines of work for 2026 were submitted for approval.
Throughout the day, Ovipor has expressed its "concern" about the "virulence" of the fire registered last week in Villanueva de los Castillejos, San Bartolomé de la Torre, and Gibraleón, while defending the "essential role" of extensive livestock farming in preventing this type of disaster.
In this regard, the cooperative has emphasized that grazing "contributes naturally to cleaning the mountain and reducing the accumulation of plant fuel, preventing forest areas from becoming a real powder keg every summer."
This year, Ovipor has decided to hold its General Assembly in Beas as a gesture of recognition to the municipality, which last year granted it the Verdial de Oro, a distinction that rewards its trajectory, its commitment to livestock farming, and its contribution to the economic and social development of the rural environment.
The president of the cooperative, Agustín González, has informed the partners that 2025 has been a financial year "with highs and lows," conditioned by bluetongue, the consequences on animal health, the climatic situation, and the application of the new CAP framework. Despite this, he has highlighted Ovipor's "strength" and the capacity of its farmers to "continue advancing in a context of high uncertainty."
Results by sectors
In the sheep sector, the year has been marked by a reduction in lamb production due to bluetongue. However, the lower supply of animals, combined with demand from Arab countries, has driven up prices, creating a favorable commercial scenario for farms.
In goats, there has also been a decrease in milk production, both due to the impact of bluetongue and the climate. Even so, prices have increased by 6% compared to 2024, which has allowed acceptable profitability margins to be maintained, especially in the most professionalized and larger farms.
As for Iberian pork, the sector has maintained its production levels with "interesting" prices. In this context, Ovipor has reinforced its role to "guarantee" the supply of pigs, the financing of feed, and the purchase of animals, providing support to its partners in an activity considered "key" for numerous farms.
One of the areas that has grown the most has been the commercialization of cattle. In 2025, this line has registered an increase of 33% in the number of animals and 53% in value compared to 2024. If compared to 2022, the advance reaches 98%, consolidating this activity as a strategic axis for the cooperative and for its livestock farmers. The feed and supplies division has also shown positive evolution, with a 14% increase in sales compared to 2024.
Within this area, Ovipor feed produced in the cooperative's own factory has experienced a 27% increase compared to the previous year, reflecting the trust of the partners in the entity's products and services. Another highlight at the Assembly was the distribution of more than 324,000 euros in complementary payments, agreed by the Governing Council on May 19.
This amount represents an increase of close to 71% compared to the previous year and has been possible because all lines of activity have closed with positive results, especially the commercialization of Ovipor products. The cooperative has also highlighted its progress in the internationalization process, with the incorporation of Portuguese livestock farmers into the commercialization of pigs and cattle.
Likewise, collaboration with cooperatives and livestock associations has allowed Ovipor feed to be distributed in five different points in Alentejo.
Challenges of extensive livestock farming
During the Assembly, Ovipor emphasized the main challenges facing extensive livestock farming, such as the effects of climate change, animal health, the bureaucratic burden associated with the CAP, and the progressive reduction in the number of farms.
Given this situation, the cooperative has demanded technical, economic, and political support "that will guarantee the future of the sector." Ovipor thus concludes a General Assembly marked by "growth, diversification of activities, and commitment to its members," in a year in which "the cooperative has once again demonstrated its fundamental role in maintaining farms, settling population, and defending livestock farming in the territory."
