The Central Board of Irrigators of the Right Bank of the Guadalquivir has organized this Thursday a dissemination day and a practical workshop focused on the projects financed by the second call of the PERTE for the Digitalization of the Water Cycle, which are being carried out in several irrigation communities in the rice-growing area.
As the entity has indicated in a press release, the event began with a technical visit to the interventions carried out in the La Ermita Irrigation Community and the Isla Mínima Canal Irrigation Community. Subsequently, a training session was held detailing the progress of the initiatives promoted by the different irrigation communities on the right bank.
As a whole, the actions presented mobilize around two million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan-NextGenerationEU, "consolidating the right bank of the Guadalquivir as a benchmark in the modernization and digitalization of irrigation."
The scope of action extends across the municipal districts of Aznalcázar, Isla Mayor, and La Puebla del Río (Seville) and currently encompasses 24,795 hectares dedicated to rice cultivation and more than 1,200 irrigators, making it one of the most extensive irrigated rice areas in Europe.
At the closing ceremony, the president of the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation, Gloria Martín Valcárcel, highlighted the key role of digitalization in increasing efficiency, strengthening transparency, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
She also emphasized that the PERTE has made it possible to launch more than fifty projects in the basin across different lines of aid, promoting more sustainable management, compliance with environmental objectives, and adaptation to climate change.
"We will be more resilient if we advance in these types of projects," she stated. The president congratulated the irrigation communities for the work carried out and for the effort made to meet the established deadlines.
