The special commission of the Parliament of Galicia tasked with examining the situation of milk prices in the community was formally constituted this Thursday, thus taking the first step to begin its work.
It is a non-permanent commission that will be chaired by PP deputy Nicole Grueira. The vice-presidency will fall to Ariadna Fernández (BNG), while the socialist Lara Méndez will assume the secretaryship. In the next session, both the internal rules of procedure and the calendar and work plan will be submitted for approval.
In relation to this new body, Grueira has stressed that it "arises from the will of the sector's own representatives" to address an issue she considers "fundamental". She has announced that "very rigorous and very serious work" will be carried out on a matter "very important" for a "dairy powerhouse" like Galicia.
From the PSdeG, deputy Lara Méndez has urged that the commission's activity "not be prolonged" over time, recalling that sector contracts will be renewed in August, and has expressed her displeasure at the recent reduction in prices received by Galician producers.
In parallel, through a statement, Unións Agrarias has demanded that farmers be placed "at the center of the debate" in these parliamentary hearings. The organization denounces the "impunity" suffered by producers in Galicia in the face of "the abuse that most industries apply in their contract policies".
