The professional agrarian organizations present in Castilla y León --Asaja, UPA, COAG, and UCCL-- have announced a concentration on August 27 in front of the Presidency of the Junta to demand that the regional government implement a package of economic aid comparable to that of the Ministry, subsidies that they consider insufficient for the current situation.
In a joint statement, the calling organizations, in a united action, have emphasized that "Farmers cannot alone bear losses that compromise the viability of the farms. We demand a response in line with the strategic weight that cereal has for agriculture, the economy, and the rural environment of our Autonomous Community."
The protest on Thursday, August 27, will take place once the 2026 cereal campaign is concluded, which is expected to be 40 percent shorter and with prices at historic lows, in addition to the "high prices" of inputs, including fertilizers, fuels, seeds, and agricultural machinery.
The OPA remind that "We are producing at a loss, with the aggravating factor that this situation has been repeating for several campaigns," and they acknowledge the aid per hectare approved by the central government to alleviate the "excessive increase" in production costs, although they emphasize that this does not cover the losses borne by "the sector in the Autonomous Community with the largest cereal area in the country."
Therefore, the organizations demand specific economic support for cereal producers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Environment, and Environmental Policy, which is in the hands of Vox, based on the fact that the minister, Joaquín Antonio Pino, has indicated his intention to articulate economic support, but so far "without any specifics" about the measures that will be applied.
