The PP deputy in the General Board, Luis Venta, announced this Saturday, during his visit to Agrosiero 2026, that he will bring a non-legislative proposal to the next Plenary with which he intends to demand from the Government of the Principality the implementation of extraordinary measures in response to the effects of the drought on agricultural and livestock operations in Asturias.
The proposal includes the immediate implementation of a line of direct aid for the affected operations, with the aim of compensating part of the additional costs generated by the scarcity of pastures and fodder. It also contemplates specific actions to ensure water supply to livestock, with special priority for mountainous areas and extensive operations.
Furthermore, the PP suggests that the Principality advance in the second half of October 70% of the interventions in the form of direct payments and the aid measures that constitute direct payments from the CAP, within the maximum allowed by European regulations for 2026. According to Venta, this measure would serve to provide liquidity to the operations that are bearing additional costs due to the purchase of fodder, the transport of water, and other needs arising from the drought.
The parliamentary initiative also demands an extraordinary program to review, recover, and maintain springs, pipelines, watering places, and tanks intended for the water supply to livestock, paying special attention to mountainous areas and extensive livestock farming.
Finally, the PP proposes the creation of a permanent working group in which professional agricultural organizations, cooperatives, and representatives of the livestock sector participate, in order to monitor the evolution of the drought and agree on prevention and response measures for future episodes.
