The PPdeG has called on the central Government to speed up negotiations with the European Union (EU) in order to authorize the application of plant protection products by drones as soon as possible.
In a press release, the Galician popular party defends the use of these aircraft to distribute already authorized plant protection products, "given their importance in the fight against the corn borer, which is affecting the crops of Galician livestock farms".
This very Friday, the Lugo Civil Guard reported that it has been investigating since last year the alleged irregular use of drones to treat several vineyard plots in Ribeira Sacra with plant protection products.
A week ago, agricultural organizations called on the Ministry of Rural Affairs to address this issue during the meeting of the Agrarian Council.
Damage to crops and PPdeG's request
Popular group deputies Nicole Grueira and Enrique Barreiro visited affected farms, along with the president of the PP of Vilalba, Sandra Vázquez, to check on the ground the damage that this invertebrate is causing to the plants.
"The urgent application of plant protection products, once the first symptoms are detected, is fundamental for pest control," emphasizes the PP, which insists on the need to act quickly.
The party also maintains that the use of drones reduces production costs and improves efficiency compared to traditional mechanical systems, which is why it urges the central Executive to speed up negotiations with the EU so that this practice can be carried out with all legal guarantees.
