The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, signed this Thursday with the head of the Fishermen's Guild of O Grove, María del Carmen Besada, the agreement aimed at the recovery of shellfish beds damaged by winter storms. This is the agreement with the largest territorial scope of the 18 already authorized in Galicia.
As detailed by the Xunta in an informative note, the global amount foreseen for these measures reaches 751,371.65 euros, with shared financing from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF).
The technical project contemplates various direct actions on the marine environment with the objective of restoring the productive capacity of the shellfish beds. Among them are the conditioning of the substrate, the cleaning and removal of organic and inorganic debris, as well as the implementation of specific plans for the control of predators and invasive exotic species.
Likewise, resources will be allocated to sowings for the pre-fattening of juveniles in cultivation parks, a measure that will allow reinforcing natural populations and ensuring the long-term sustainability of shellfish farming activities.
