The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, signed this Tuesday with the Galician Cooperative Society Ría de Arousa a collaboration agreement aimed at the recovery of shellfish beds affected by the storms recorded at the beginning of the year.
As detailed by the Xunta in a statement, this agreement has a budget of 435,573.33 euros, co-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), and is part of the extraordinary plan launched by the Galician government to reactivate shellfish activity and restore coastal habitats.
This new agreement is added to those already signed with 12 other brotherhoods (Noia, Vilaxoán, Muros, Vilanova, Moaña, Barallobre, Miño, Carril, Anllóns, Arcade, Vilanova, and A Illa de Arousa), also aimed at the recovery of areas damaged by heavy rains.
According to the agreement, the actions will be carried out on a surface area of 29,920 square meters, located between Punta Portomouro and Punta Pedra Rubia, and will also include the conditioning of the marine substrate.
The plan also includes a predator control program and, in the productive sphere, foresees the sowing of more than 3.5 million units of carpet-shell clams to promote the regeneration of the beds.
