The Consellería do Mar has committed more than 138,000 euros between 2025 and 2026 for various projects promoted by the Cofradía de Pescadores de Mugardos (A Coruña), aimed at boosting artisanal fishing, the recovery of marine resources, and the modernization of the working means of its members.

Representatives of the pósito de Mugardos met this Wednesday with the director general of Desenvolvemento Pesqueiro, Ángeles V. Suárez, with the aim of reviewing the situation of shellfishing in the ría de Ferrol and studying the demands of the sector, within the framework of the round of contacts that the head of Mar maintains with the brotherhoods of Galicia.

The support of Mar to Mugardos was concretized in two aids of 72,120 and 36,327 euros, respectively, destined for collective initiatives for the sustainable management of artisanal coastal fishing, focused in this case on shellfishing.

To these amounts are added another 10,790 euros granted for conservation and recovery actions of biodiversity and marine ecosystems, which allowed continuity in 2025 to the work initiated in 2023 in this same field, with actions such as the regeneration of the habitat in the cove of O Baño and the reinforcement of the banks through the planting of clam in a surface of 29,000 square meters.

In addition, the brotherhood of Mugardos obtained more than 19,000 euros to carry out a project to improve the marketing of curled oyster and for the maintenance of the shellfish banks, incorporating new material, among which is a multifunction trailer.

The director general of Desenvolvemento Pesqueiro also emphasized that Mugardos is part of two research projects that are being developed in the ría de Ferrol: "Zamfer," focused on the zamburiña, and "BivaFerrol," aimed at analyzing the sediments and their influence on the production of bivalves.
