The Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, attended this Tuesday in Madrid to participate in the presentation of the first Census of Maritime Heritage of Galicia and the Nai Areas, also called Spaces of Maritime Cultural Interest.

The event took place at the Casa de Galicia in Madrid, within the day "Galicia, sea and memory," where the regional representative detailed these two tools promoted by the Xunta and integrated into the Maritime Culture Plan of Galicia (PCUMA), conceived to preserve, safeguard, and give visibility to the legacy linked to the sea.

Thanks to this census, more than 1,450 heritage elements have been inventoried and described, the result of almost 3 years of fieldwork, during which more than 24,000 kilometers were traveled and 83 different types of maritime heritage were cataloged.

In her speech, Marta Villaverde emphasized that these actions contribute to strengthening and valuing a maritime culture that constitutes "an essential part of Galician identity" and that will facilitate both the research and protection of these assets as well as their dissemination inside and outside Galicia.
