The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, has highlighted this Tuesday the wine sector as one of the greatest exponents of the well-known 'Galicia Calidade' and has underlined that it represents an "essential piece" for maintaining a "living and productive" rural area.
Rueda made these statements during the awards ceremony for the Catas de Galicia competition, promoted by the Xunta and aimed at distinguishing the best wines, brandies, and liqueurs produced in the community.
In this call, 462 samples from 152 wineries and distilleries were submitted, while more than fifty specialists participated in the pre-tasting and final tasting phases, culminating in a definitive panel composed of 12 professionals linked to oenology.
During his speech, the head of the Galician Government valued the "effort and talent" of all participating companies and those awarded, emphasizing that these products not only bring economic wealth but also contribute to projecting the image of Galicia abroad.
In this regard, Rueda reiterated the Xunta's support for a sector "that has a great future" and recalled that this year more than 12 million euros are allocated to aid for the production and promotion of wine products, as well as for the modernization of vineyards, among other actions.
