The exhibition "Delapuente: memory of a traveling Cantabrian", (1909-1975). Portraits, Italy, Paris, London, Madrid, Castile, Cantabria" faces its final stretch and will remain open to the public only until Thursday, June 11 in the courtyard of the Parliament of Cantabria.
Promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Methos Foundation, the exhibition brings together 36 pieces by the Santander painter Fernando Delapuente in an anthology that covers his artistic career, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of his death.
Under the curatorship of Andrés Barbé, the exhibition proposes a journey through the creative evolution of an author conditioned by his dual profile as an artist and engineer.
According to the Parliament, his canvases stand out for the use of simple planes, full of color and with strong contrasts, in a painting situated between abstraction and simplification, always with a deep coherence.
Delapuente presents himself as a creator who is both classic and modern, and as a careful builder of luminous and colorful settings. In his paintings, he manages to extract light and chromatic nuances even from the gray and hazy urban environments, characteristic of cities like Paris and London.
The exhibition is presented as a unique opportunity to delve into the particular pictorial universe of one of the most unique Cantabrian artists of the 20th century, before its definitive closure on June 11.
