The medical office of Cueto will resume service for consultations "in the coming days," once the rehabilitation work that forced its closure last March, after the collapse of part of the roof, is completed.
This was stated this Thursday by the regional deputy and spokesperson for Health of the Popular Party of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Vargas, who, in statements to the media, has highlighted the commitment of the Buruaga Executive to the residents of Cueto by proceeding with the reopening of the office for the second time, after the Cantabria Government approved a grant of 100,000 euros intended for the rehabilitation of the building of the Neighborhood Association where the service is located.
Vargas has expressed his gratitude to the Neighborhood Association for their involvement in advancing the necessary funds to carry out the rehabilitation works of the property, which will make it possible for consultations to resume in the coming days.
The parliamentarian emphasized that the Minister of Health, César Pascual, took on in March, during a visit to this office, the commitment to find a solution to the problem caused by the deterioration of the facilities and that, once the cost of the intervention was determined, the Popular Group introduced an amendment to the 2026 Budget to increase the grant allocation to 100,000 euros.
In the same vein, he stressed that, with this measure, "the Popular Party manages to reopen the medical office of Cueto for the second time," given that "it was María José Sáenz de Buruaga, as Minister of Health, who reopened these facilities in 2014, after the closure that occurred during the PRC and PSOE government period."
"While PRC-PSOE closed offices, the Popular Party has reopened them. And now, after years of lack of maintenance by regionalists and socialists in which the continuity of health service in this infrastructure has been put at risk again, the Buruaga Government acts again to guarantee it," he reiterated.
In this context, the regional deputy has held PRC-PSOE responsible for having left for eight years "a network of health centers deeply deteriorated by a significant lack of care"; a reality in which, as he indicated, Cueto "is not an exception," but rather an example of what happens in different municipalities and localities of Cantabria such as Reinosa, Covadonga (Torrelavega) "and so many other centers."
Vargas has also criticized "the eagerness for protagonism of the regionalists, who seem to be more concerned with claiming merits and taking photographs than with solving the problems that directly affect the citizens."
"The neighbors of Cueto do not need headlines or speeches; they need their health center to be back in condition and that healthcare is guaranteed. And that is exactly what the Government of Buruaga is doing," he concluded.
