The PRC candidate for the Presidency of Cantabria and deputy, Paula Fernández Viaña, has expressed her "absolute rejection" of the new system of regional financing proposed by the central Government, which she has labeled as "unacceptable, harmful, and completely alien to the reality of our community."

In a note sent to the media, Fernández argues that the Executive's initiative is "totally insufficient" and consolidates a comparative grievance that leaves Cantabria in a situation of "extreme vulnerability" in the medium and long term.

The regional leader has emphasized that any modification of the financing model must adhere to the agreement reached "unanimously" by the Parliament of Cantabria, without exceptions.

In her opinion, the Government of Spain is "deliberately" overlooking the key technical criteria unanimously approved in the regional Chamber: "the real cost of services, the weight of population dispersion, aging, and orography," she has stressed.

Fernández believes that the document sent by the Ministry reflects an "absolute lack of sensitivity" towards communities with lower population density. "We cannot tolerate that Cantabria is the worst-treated community in the entire State and the only one left out of the distribution of additional resources, receiving zero euros more while the costs of healthcare, education, and dependency continue to grow exponentially due to inflation and the geographical reality of our territory," she has denounced.

According to the candidate, the scheme designed by the central Executive "does not obey a technical or solidarity balance, but rather a tailored suit to buy temporary political support."

She has also warned that the relative weight loss of Cantabria in the general system —which would drop from 1.7% to 1.49%— "seriously compromises the viability and quality of citizen care."

For this reason, Fernández Viaña has appealed to the "responsibility of all political forces" and has defended that Cantabria use all political, institutional, and legal levers "to stop this outrage."

Finally, she has announced that the regionalists will demand to ensure the maintenance of the current status quo and the implementation of necessary complementary mechanisms so that the community receives the fair financing that, she claims, it is entitled to by right.
