The Minister of Economy of the Generalitat, Alícia Romero, has assured that the Catalan Executive will get involved in ensuring that the ownership of the public health system properties that are still listed as property of the Social Security passes into the hands of the Generalitat.
In this Wednesday's plenary session of the Parliament, and responding to an interpellation from ERC, she explained that the objective is to advance on two levels: on the one hand, in the necessary legal authorization and, on the other, in reaching a political understanding within the framework of the Bilateral Commission.
Romero recalled that, for this transfer to be possible, a norm is first required that allows the State to acquire these buildings from the Social Security Treasury, a mechanism that was already approved in 2011 but was subsequently repealed by a PP Government.
Once that legal tool is recovered, she detailed that the next step would be to formalize the change of ownership from the central Government to the Generalitat, a process after which the minister emphasized the "will to gain self-government" on the part of the Catalan Executive.
In this regard, she considered the current situation incoherent and remarked that "it doesn't make much sense that we have been managing healthcare in Catalonia for many years, with our resources, which I hope we will gain with the new financing model, and that we do not have ownership of these 112 facilities."
