The plenary session of the Parliament has urged the Government this Thursday to effectively integrate the history, culture, and contributions of the Roma people into educational curricula, cultural facilities, and public memory policies, with the aim of combating stereotypes against the Roma community and advancing their institutional recognition.
This request is part of a motion by the Comuns on policies for the recognition and inclusion of the Roma people and against anti-Gypsyism, which was approved with the support of PSC-Units, Junts, ERC, Comuns, and CUP, while PP and Aliança Catalana abstained and Vox voted against it.
Among the approved points is the creation of a memory space for the Roma people in Catalonia as a tool for recognition, reparation, and dissemination, along with a specific program that highlights their historical persecution and resistance.
The motion also proposes actions to reduce inequalities in education, in access and stability in employment, and in their economic development, in order to combat the "residential discrimination and exclusion" suffered by this community and incorporate their perspective into health policies, in addition to promoting measures for the protection and promotion of the Romani language.
Likewise, the text calls for the implementation of a specific plan to strengthen the rights of Roma women and to incorporate the perspective of "intersectional feminisms in all public policies aimed at the Roma people."
