The expert report presented by Jonathan Andic's defense before the Court of Instruction number 5 of Martorell (Barcelona) on the reconstruction of the death, in December 2024, of the founder of Mango and father of the investigated party, Isak Andic, concludes that in the fatal accident in Collbató (Barcelona) he would have suffered injuries comparable to those of an "identical" fall that occurred months earlier.
The document, to which Europa Press has had access, takes as its basis the video of an accidental fall that Isak Andic suffered on February 20, 2024, in the lobby of Mutua Universal de Barcelona.
From the kinematic and biomechanical analysis, with measurements verified 'in situ' by the signing expert, a fall pattern is determined characterized by a sudden loss of balance, an "uncontrollable" forward displacement for several meters, the inability to regain an upright posture, the absence of a protective reflex gesture with the hands, and a final impact on the right side.
The forensic medical study, prepared by two doctors, confirms that Andic suffered from osteoarthritis in both knees, a condition for which he had already been treated and which diminishes his reaction capacity and balance correction.
From viewing the images of the incident at Mutua Universal de Barcelona, captured by a security camera, the defense experts conclude that Andic lost stability due to a small unevenness, could not regain his step, presented stiffness in his spine, showed a late and weak response of the protective mechanisms, and did not extend his hands.
"This documented motor dysfunction explains why the victim could not put his hands forward during the fatal fall. It was not due to surprise or initial unconsciousness, but to a pre-existing neuromotor inability to activate the protective reflex," they maintain, which would justify the lack of injuries on the palms.
With this thesis, the defense seeks to contradict the order for provisional detention, which could be avoided with bail, issued by the investigating judge who, based on a forensic report, described Andic's fall as if he "had thrown himself down a slide, feet first."
The judge also highlighted that all the injuries from the alleged slip were located on the right side and in an upward direction, and that he did not present injuries on the palms of his hands, thus ruling out a slip on a stone or a frontal fall.
The embankment and the fall in Montserrat
The experts who signed the defense report maintain that the accident in Collbató could have been triggered in a similar way to the one that occurred at Mutua Universal de Barcelona, where the intervention of third parties, who held the founder of Mango, cushioned the impact, unlike what happened in Montserrat, where he first fell down an embankment and then down a cliff of 87.91 meters with rocks and ledges.
"This configuration --a sliding embankment followed by a free fall down a cliff-- is what turns an idiopathic fall pattern (non-lethal on a flat floor) into an objectively fatal sequence when applied to the mountain trail," the experts conclude.
