The Provincial Court of Burgos has imposed on a man, identified as A.C.R., a total sentence of eleven years in prison and a financial penalty of 600,000 euros for the crime of possessing explosives or flammable and incendiary substances and another for drug trafficking of notorious importance. The sentence is broken down into four years for the first of the crimes and seven for the second.
The Civil Guard's investigation was launched upon suspecting that the accused was manufacturing pyrotechnic devices without administrative authorization. In March 2024, agents intercepted his car on the A-1 highway, near Lerma, where they found six kilograms of "speed" hidden under the rear seats.
Following this, searches carried out on the accused's properties led to the seizure of more than 25 kilos of various narcotic substances, whose market value would exceed 398,000 euros.
In relation to the explosive material, investigators seized a notable quantity of restricted and controlled chemical products, such as potassium perchlorate, sulfuric acid, and sodium nitrate. Aluminum and magnesium powders, and acetone were also located, ingredients suitable for the preparation of highly unstable mixtures like TATP, known as "mother of Satan."
As detailed by the Press Office of the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León, cited by Europa Press, the court highlights that the accused had specialized laboratory equipment to carry out these chemical reactions. In addition to the precursors, he stored 91 meters of fuse and more than one kilogram of prepared gunpowder, classified as explosive objects.
During the oral hearing, the accused denied the facts attributed to him, but the Court has considered his criminal responsibility proven, relying on operational surveillance and chemical material shipments he received from Valencia and Poland. The ruling emphasizes that the investigated individual took severe security measures to evade police control.
The sentence orders the confiscation and destruction of all seized substances, both narcotics and explosive components. In addition to the prison sentence and fine, the convicted person will have to pay the procedural costs incurred in the proceedings.
Against this ruling by the First Section of the Burgos Court, it is still possible to file an appeal before the High Court of Justice of Castilla y León.
