The magistrate of the Court of Instruction No. 3 of the Court of Instance of Ponteareas has ordered the provisional imprisonment of a neighbor of the locality, investigated for an alleged crime of homicide following the death of his mother in this Pontevedra locality.
The arrested individual was brought before the court on the morning of this Tuesday and, after declaring before the judge, it was agreed that he would be held in provisional prison, communicated and without the possibility of bail.
The arrest took place last Sunday, when the man, who had attempted to take his own life, admitted at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo that he had killed his mother.
Agents from the Police and the Civil Guard then went to the family home, located on a central street in Ponteareas, where they found the lifeless body of the woman. Although at first it was considered that she might have been stabbed, sources from the investigation indicate that the victim had suffered a strong blow to the head.
The deceased, 80 years old, was dependent and had serious mobility problems, while the arrested son, who was her main caregiver, was being treated for psychiatric disorders.
As indicated this Monday, during a minute of silence, the deputy mayor of Ponteareas stated that mother and son had recently moved to the municipality from Covelo and had not requested support from the social services of the City Council.
