The number 3 court of the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Torremolinos (Málaga) has issued a ruling this Friday by which two parents of British nationality, arrested after leaving their three minor children unsupervised in a hotel in Benalmádena, accept a sentence of one year and four months in prison for a crime of abandonment.

As specified by the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), the judicial resolution also includes the disqualification of both for two years and eight months from exercising parental authority, a period during which, for two years, they will also be prohibited from approaching within 500 meters of the minors.

Likewise, they have indicated that, in application of the agreement reached between all the parties involved, the court has decided to suspend the effective imprisonment of the parents, conditioned on them not reoffending within a period of two years.

The three minors remain under the care of the Social Services of the Junta de Andalucía, which, in execution of this sentence, plans to contact the British Consulate to organize the transfer of the children to their country of origin, according to the same sources.

The events occurred on the night of last Wednesday, when a warning was given about the situation of risk in which the three little ones, aged six months, one year, and four years, were found, who were allegedly unattended in the common areas of the hotel establishment. Agents of the National Police dispatched to the scene took charge of the proceedings and proceeded to the arrest of the couple, a 41-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman.

The children were transferred to a hospital center, where it was found that two of them tested positive for cocaine. The three minors were finally placed under the protection of the Junta de Andalucía.
