The magistrate of the National Court who is instructing the 'Leire Díez case' has summoned Juan Manuel Serrano, former president of Correos and former chief of staff of the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for this Tuesday at 10:00 hours, in order to proceed with the cloning of his mobile phone.

This procedure was initially scheduled for August 5, but Judge Santiago Pedraz accepted the request from Serrano's defense, which had asked to postpone the appearance.

Pedraz is investigating Serrano in the case opened for the 'Leire Díez case', in which, on one hand, the possible existence of a network aimed at rigging contracts of the Spanish Society of Industrial Participations (SEPI) is analyzed, and on the other, an alleged scheme aimed at obstructing judicial proceedings affecting the PSOE and the Executive.

In both lines of investigation, the judge places the former secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, as the main leader, while attributing to Leire Díez the task of coordinating the alleged schemes.

Cloning of the mobile and Serrano's role

With this diligence, the judge intends to verify the cloning already carried out by agents of the Civil Guard, who had previously intervened Serrano's phone.

Pedraz authorized access, dumping, and analysis in police facilities of the former chief of staff's mobile, specifying that "the opening of his devices, the complete cloning, and the safeguarding of its content will be carried out with the necessary technical conditions to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the data and the guarantees of its preservation."

The instructor decided to charge Serrano after a report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, which attributes to him a "preeminent participation" in the two branches of the procedure.

In that report, the investigators indicate that the "positioning" of Leire Díez as director of Institutional Relations and Philately at Correos would have been discussed between the former president of SEPI, Vicente Fernández —also under investigation— and Serrano himself.

Conversations intercepted by the UCO

The UCO bases this conclusion on a conversation between the two in May 2021. "What we talked about Leire, could we get it started already?" Fernández asked Serrano.

Next, the then president of SEPI added: "I had thought that, since after the reorganization, Tote is in charge of institutional matters in the territories, it could be assigned for her to work with him. Does that sound good to you?". Serrano replied: "Ok, let's keep talking".

The agents also included a message from Leire Díez to Vicente Fernández in which the former member asked him if Juanma "has responded" to him.

"Yes, he has put 'ok, let's keep talking'. Don't worry, yours will come out," Fernández replied, according to the same report.

According to the investigation, Díez would have coordinated with Serrano to "help" Sánchez after his period of reflection motivated by the indictment of his wife and to pursue "the bad people". The exchanged messages between both would point to a "close" collaboration, according to the version collected by the investigators.
