The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Almería has scheduled for this Wednesday the trial against two men arrested after being caught with nearly seven and a half kilos of MDMA or ecstasy in the El Alquián neighborhood, events that occurred in September of last year.
According to the provisional indictment consulted by Europa Press, the Prosecutor's Office seeks a sentence of eight years in prison for each of the defendants for a crime against public health, in addition to a fine of 1.2 million euros and six months of subsidiary personal liability if said amount is not paid. It also requests their expulsion from national territory for ten years once they have served two-thirds of their sentence.
The events date back to 10:00 AM on September 12, 2025, when National Police agents identified the two men, who were in a "suspicious" attitude next to a car located in the vicinity of Traíña street and Catamarán street.
At the moment the police were carrying out the relevant checks after asking for their identification, both defendants started running in different directions and abandoned a backpack at the scene in which they were carrying four hermetically sealed bags full of pills.
The agents managed to arrest the suspect carrying the car keys at that moment, while the second, identified by his passport, managed to escape and remain hidden for several weeks, until he was finally located and arrested in Elche (Alicante) on October 13.
The inspection of the backpack allowed for the location of four bags with pills of different colors and with a printed stamp. Subsequent analysis determined that it was MDMA or ecstasy, with a total weight of 7.32 kilos which, due to its purity and composition, would have reached a value of over 404,000 euros in the illicit market.
Both defendants remain in preventive detention awaiting the oral hearing, scheduled for this Wednesday at 9:30 AM at the Provincial Court of Almería.
