The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed against the resolution of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) that ratified the acquittal of a young woman from Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona), prosecuted for allegedly inciting a friend with schizophrenia to end her father's life in June 2019, according to the sentence to which Europa Press has had access.
In the verdict issued in 2022, the popular jury unanimously declared it proven that the young man, during a psychotic episode, committed a parricide, but did not consider it proven that the accused had induced him to commit the crime.
In this way, the Supreme Court supports the jury's ruling from the Barcelona Court, which was already endorsed by the TSJC, by exonerating the woman from the crimes of aggravated murder, arson, and fraud, and by declaring the victim's son exempt from criminal responsibility due to his mental alteration.
