The president of the ANC, Josep Vila, stated this Wednesday that "the violence of the State is still alive" just before the trial against the 4 agents of the National Police accused of causing injuries to Roger Español, who lost the vision in one eye after being hit by a rubber ball on October 1, 2017.

In statements to the media, he emphasized that "The cause that today leads Roger Español and everyone to denounce this violence of the State is still alive. The struggle of the Catalan people is still alive and we will defend ourselves and take steps forward with him and with all the persecuted and the victims of 1-O."

Vila recalled that the ANC acts as a popular accusation alongside Òmnium Cultural and Irídia, and lamented that, despite the events of 1-O, only the case of Roger Español has finally gone to trial, when that day, he has denounced, "thousands of police exercised violence against a peaceful people approaching the ballot boxes."

"This is not justice. This, at this moment, can be clearly said to be impunity. The impunity of the violence exercised against a people," he stated, criticizing the lack of accountability.

For Vila, everything that has happened highlights "the little democracy and justice" that, in his opinion, exists in Spain.
