The ERC spokesperson in the Catalan Parliament, Ester Capella, has left open the possibility of registering amendments to the bill promoted by the Comuns that seeks to ban speculative housing purchases in Catalonia: "We see good things and other things that we don't like as much."
When asked about the fact that the legislative initiative places the responsibility for applying the ban on speculative purchases on the town councils, she pointed out that, if ERC had been the promoting force of the rule, it would have "explored other avenues." She added that it will be necessary to analyze whether the text presented by the Comuns admits improvements and to what extent ERC can contribute to introducing changes, given that, in her opinion, there is no single formula to address the problem.
After Junts and PP announced their intention to take the bill to the Consell de Garanties Estatutàries (CGE), Capella remarked that the parliamentary groups will have to position themselves and decide whether they stand on the side of guaranteeing the right to housing, "or with those who think that housing is what guarantees very high profits and who permanently speculate with a scarce good."
"We will always be on the side of guaranteeing the right to housing and, obviously, we will fight those who think that housing is a financial asset and that they can permanently speculate with housing," the Republican leader stressed.
