The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, assured this Tuesday that he feels "optimistic" about the development of the XIII Andalusian legislature, in which PP-A and Vox share responsibilities in a coalition government. He emphasized that, for now, coexistence in the executive is proceeding "for the moment without tensions."
Moreno made these statements to journalists in Madrid, after being received in audience by King Felipe VI at the Palacio de la Zarzuela, a meeting framed in his recent reelection as president of the Junta de Andalucía.
Regarding the start of the new cabinet shared between PP and Vox, the Andalusian leader indicated that "we have been a few weeks and, therefore, for now it is proceeding normally in this government appointment process."
The Andalusian president reiterated that the agreement with Vox was not his "preferred" option, but stressed that he was forced into that understanding after he could not revalidate the absolute majority of the previous legislature in the last regional elections and that the left-wing parties "have not been able in any way to abstain so that there could be a solo government."
Moreno defended the democratic solidity of the agreement reached, emphasizing that "therefore, we form a government that has legitimacy, that has a broad support from the Andalusian citizenry of more than 60 percent and we are going to govern for all Andalusians."
Regarding the duration of the legislature, he warned that "but time will tell, of course the legislature will be if we do things reasonably, within the differences we have between the two parties, and if it is not viable, then obviously it will end, but we hope it is viable for the good of the Andalusians."
As for the internal climate of the coalition executive, he insisted that "for now, without tensions; if we have been two weeks and we already have tensions, then the omen is not very good."
Moreno added that "I want to be optimistic, I believe that a team can be formed," recalling that in his cabinet there are twelve counselors from PP-A and only one from Vox, which, in his opinion, allows for a cohesive government action.
The president has emphasized that "the fundamental objective of the government must be imposed, which is to manage public interests and do so in the best possible way, and that is what we are going to try to do with the framework we have, which is the Statute of Autonomy for Andalusia and the Spanish Constitution, and from that we will not move even a centimeter."
Regarding the discrepancies with Vox on environmental matters, and in particular about the fact that this party questions the existence of global warming, Moreno has specified that, in his case, "climate change is scientific evidence and, therefore, what we have to do is not use it as an excuse, but we have to update our society to what is happening with climate change."
