The magnitude 5 earthquake recorded with its epicenter in the Granada town of Alhendín has also been felt outside of Andalusia, the community where the tremor was most clearly noticed. In the rest of the affected regions, the intensity has been rated at level II, which implies that it was barely perceived by the public, according to data released this Saturday by the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The seismic movement reached different areas of the Community of Madrid, including the capital, as well as municipalities such as Torrejón de Ardoz, Alcalá de Henares, Arganda del Rey, Leganés, Móstoles, Getafe, Parla, Valdemoro, or Pinto.
In Extremadura, the tremor was felt in towns such as Badajoz, Cáceres, or Don Benito. In Castilla-La Mancha, the effects of the earthquake with its epicenter in Alhendín reached Toledo and the Toledo municipalities of Ocaña and Ontígola; it was also felt in the city of Ciudad Real and other points in the province such as Alcázar de San Juan, Valdepeñas, and Puertollano, in addition to being felt in Albacete and Cuenca.
In the Region of Murcia, the earthquake was perceived both in the regional capital and in several towns, including Lorca, Águilas, Mula, Bullas, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegín, or Calasparra.
EMERGENCY CALLS FROM ALL OF ANDALUSIA, EXCEPT CÁDIZ AND HUELVA
The Emergency Service 112 Andalucía has attended to more than 200 reports, the majority coming from the province of Granada, although also from all other Andalusian provinces, except for Huelva and Cádiz.
Among the Granada towns from which calls have been registered are Alhendín, Churriana de la Vega, Ogíjares, Padul, Almuñécar, Gójar, Dílar, Guadix, La Zubia, Pinos Puente, Granada, Armilla, Motril, or Cenes, among many others.
Likewise, 112 has received communications from different points in the community, such as Almería, Sevilla, Málaga capital, and municipalities in its province such as Torrox, Vélez-Málaga, Fuengirola, Algarrobo, or Rincón de la Victoria; from Córdoba capital and towns such as Almodóvar del Río or Bujalance, and also from the Jaén municipalities of Linares, Andújar, or La Carolina, among others.
The earthquake was recorded exactly at 01:04 hours in the early morning, with an initial depth of two kilometers that was later revised to ten kilometers, and with a latitude of 37.1147 degrees and a longitude of -3.6618 degrees.
This earthquake occurred seven hours after a first tremor of magnitude 3.7 and intensity IV with its epicenter in the town of La Zubia, also in the province of Granada.
