The Council of Ministers has given the green light this Tuesday to a budget of 50 million euros intended to finance the hiring of unemployed people to carry out reconstruction work in the municipalities damaged by the storms that affected Andalusia and Extremadura at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.
Through this Royal Decree, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) is authorized to grant direct subsidies to municipalities and other local corporations, in order to cover the costs of hiring unemployed people who will be responsible for repairing infrastructure and recovering services that were affected by adverse weather phenomena.
With this initiative, the Executive seeks to accelerate the recovery of the affected areas and promote the return to normal socio-economic activity in the municipalities impacted by the storms.
According to the Government's calculations, around 13,000 people registered as job seekers could benefit from this new program, based on the level of participation achieved in previous similar employment plans.
In detail, the program developed in Extremadura in 2024 had about 2,800 participants, while in Andalusia the figure was around 10,200.
