The general secretary of the PP of Malaga, José Ramón Carmona, paid tribute this Wednesday to the figure of José María Martín Carpena on the 26th anniversary of his assassination at the hands of the terrorist group ETA, emphasizing that "Malaga never forgets who was an example of public service, democratic commitment, and dedication to his city".
Carmona, who led the floral offering alongside the spokesperson for the 'popular' municipal group, Elisa Pérez de Siles, recalled that Martín Carpena was "more than a politician, he was a person who dedicated his life to serving the people of Malaga with honesty and the defense of democratic values".
"26 years have passed, but we continue to remember who José María Martín Carpena was, why he was murdered, and what he represented. They killed him for defending freedom, coexistence, and democracy. They killed him because ETA could not tolerate a Spain of free and equal citizens," indicated the 'popular' leader.
In this regard, he highlighted that "Malaga maintains its unwavering commitment to the memory of José María Martín Carpena and all victims of terrorism," adding that "neither the passage of time nor the political interests of some will be able to erase the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our freedom".
Along these lines, Carmona considered that "it is painful to see how Pedro Sánchez's Government has normalized its agreements with the heirs of ETA" and insisted that "the dignity and memory of the victims cannot be a bargaining chip to keep Sánchez in La Moncloa".
For this reason, the general secretary of the PP of Malaga reiterated that "the memory, dignity, and justice that victims of terrorism deserve are incompatible with any attempt to whitewash those who justified or supported violence".
He also expressed the affection and support of the Popular Party of Malaga to the family of José María Martín Carpena, "whom we will always accompany in remembrance and in the defense of his legacy," as well as to all victims of terrorism.
To conclude, Carmona called on the citizens of Malaga to "keep alive the flame of freedom, civility, and memory." "After 26 years, Malaga continues to say loud and clear that it does not forget or forgive. We do not forget José María Martín Carpena. We do not forget the victims. We do not forget what ETA was. And we will not allow the murderers to rewrite history," he concluded.
