The PP leader in the Barcelona City Council, Daniel Sirera, has demanded that the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, "immediately" reinforce surveillance, police controls, and resources allocated to the Port of Barcelona with the aim of stopping the entry of drugs and weapons. At the same time, he has urged the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, to increase the number of police officers in Catalonia.
As Sirera explained, these demands come after the murder registered this Wednesday on Balmes street in the Catalan capital, a new crime that, he recalls, adds to a series of recent violent episodes. In a statement, the party details that the popular leader reproaches the "passivity and lack of leadership of the mayor, Jaume Collboni, in the face of a situation that already accumulates 7 homicides in broad daylight in just two months".
The PP councilor considers that the city is going through a critical situation and demands an immediate response from all involved administrations. "Barcelona needs authority, determination, and leadership. Citizens are tired of excuses and of administrations that pass responsibility to each other while insecurity continues to grow. Marlaska, Illa, and Collboni must assume their responsibility and act once and for all. The safety of Barcelonians cannot wait any longer," he stressed.
