The Torrent City Council (Valencia) plans to hold an institutional remembrance event at the monument dedicated to the victims of the metro accident of July 3, 2006, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the tragedy. The ceremony will include a floral offering in memory of the 43 deceased people and three minutes of silence as a gesture of recognition and respect towards the victims, the injured people, and their loved ones.
This initiative is included in an institutional declaration supported by the municipal plenary, which has moved forward with the support of the PP, PSPV, Compromís, Vox groups and the non-attached councilor, which shows "the unanimous consensus of the municipal corporation around the remembrance, respect and memory of the victims and their families", as the city council has indicated in a statement.
On July 3, 2026, it will be 20 years since the Metrovalencia accident, in which 43 people died and another 47 were injured. Two decades later, Torrent continues to "keep alive" the memory of that day that "profoundly marked numerous families in the city and the entire Torrent society".
The institutional text highlights "the dignity, integrity, and perseverance of the families" of the victims and underlines their "commitment throughout all these years to the defense of truth, justice, reparation, and memory". Likewise, it recognizes "the solidarity and support shown by the citizens of Torrent from the first moment, accompanying the affected people".
Through this declaration, the City Council emphasizes that the city "reaffirms its commitment to collective memory, institutional respect, and the need to continue preserving the memory of the victims of a tragedy that remains very present in the history and conscience of the city".
