The teaching staff of non-university public education in the Valencian Community has decided to suspend the indefinite strike after 23 days of stoppage, although the majority have rejected the latest proposal from the Ministry of Education, according to the telematic consultation carried out by the unions.

Of the 30,238 participating teachers, 87% voted against the offer presented by the Generalitat, which now opens a new phase of negotiation between both parties without a definitive agreement having been reached.

The decision adopted by the teaching staff allows the unions —STEPV, CC OO, and UGT— to put the strike on hold, which facilitates its immediate possible reactivation in case of a breakdown in talks.

The alternative of a total de-escalation would have meant the closure of the conflict and the need to initiate a new mobilization process with prior notice.

The Generalitat's offer

The rejected proposal included a progressive salary increase of up to 200 euros per month in January 2028, in addition to staggered increases from September 2026, the hiring of 5,000 new teachers, or the reduction of ratios in classrooms.

On the other hand, it contemplated an air conditioning plan with 140 million euros, improvements in educational infrastructure, six days of free disposition, and the recognition of the right to digital disconnection.

An ongoing conflict

The majority unions insist on reopening salary negotiations, while other unions such as ANPE and CSIF had already shown positions closer to an agreement.

STEPV, CC OO, and UGT consider that the proposed improvements do not yet compensate for the starting point of the collective, which has —as they point out— years without regional salary updates.

For its part, the Ministry defends that the offer would place Valencian teachers among the best paid in the country, while the unions deny this and maintain that the system starts from a position of disadvantage compared to other communities.
