Aedas Homes managed to avoid the emission of 2,708.50 tons of CO2 in 2025 thanks to the installation of Cortizo Infinity recycled aluminum joinery, as communicated by the real estate developer.
The company detailed that this emission reduction is approximately equivalent to the CO2e generated by the annual use of 2,080 passenger cars, taking as a reference the average emission data collected in the annual report of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC).
This decrease was achieved through the installation of thousands of Cortizo 100% post-consumer recycled aluminum windows in 15 residential developments, totaling nearly 1,000 homes spread across different Spanish provinces (Veranda, Maranta, Mesmer, Gradia, Marina Real III, Alsos, Taray, Noray, Solum, Sinán, Leblich, Alondra I, Alondra II, Odina II, and Carena). In total, Aedas Homes incorporated 195.14 tons of this sustainable material into the construction of these projects.
Reduction close to 94% of emissions
The integration of these sustainable windows manufactured with Cortizo Infinity aluminum, produced in the Galician company's foundries from scrap metal, allows for a reduction of almost 94% in CO2 emissions compared to the global average for conventional primary aluminum joinery, according to figures from the European Aluminium Association (AEA).
In absolute terms, the aluminum used in Aedas Homes' developments would have generated approximately 2,888.04 tons of CO2 if primary aluminum had been used, whereas with Cortizo Infinity aluminum, emissions have been limited to 179.53 tons.
Cortizo Infinity is presented as a 100% recycled aluminum ingot, made entirely from post-consumer scrap metal from windows, doors, facades, and railings. At the end of its useful life, the aluminum from these elements returns to the production cycle, thus avoiding waste generation.
The production of Cortizo Infinity, certified by Bureau Veritas, registers CO2 emissions below 920 grams per kilogram of aluminum manufactured, a figure supported by an Environmental Product Declaration that, according to Aedas, "certifies the environmental impacts of Infinity's life cycle from raw material extraction to its end-of-life management."
Boost to the circular economy
"The commitment to sustainability is a strategic axis for Aedas Homes, which continues to advance in the construction of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities through the incorporation of materials with lower impact, such as Cortizo aluminum with 100% post-consumer recycled content, which drives the decarbonization of the construction process," stated the Director of Sustainability at Aedas Homes, Diego Demaría.
The executive added that "the use of these solutions reduces the carbon footprint and moves towards models aligned with the circular economy, anticipating the future modification of the Technical Building Code (CTE), which will require its calculation and subsequently establish compliance thresholds." Likewise, he stressed that this aluminum constitutes an "efficient, circular, and coherent alternative with the company's decarbonization objectives and respect for the environment."
Decarbonization of the real estate stock
The General Director of Architecture at Cortizo, Daniel Lainz, highlighted that the Infinity Partner agreement signed two years ago continues to advance "with concrete projects" and continues "promoting sustainable construction" focused on "the circularity of materials" with the aim of "reducing the carbon footprint" associated with construction.
"During the last fiscal year, almost a thousand new homes by Aedas have incorporated high-performance Cortizo enclosures manufactured with Infinity. This translates into approximately 5,000 windows that originate from other joinery which, instead of becoming waste at the end of their useful life, were recovered to obtain raw material for profile extrusion," he indicated.
