Brazil's National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) stood at 4.64% year-on-year in June, slightly below the 4.72% recorded in the same month of the previous year, according to data published this Friday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
In monthly terms, prices in the sixth month of the year advanced 0.16% compared to May, when they had risen 0.58%, which represents an increase of 42 hundredths less. With this, the accumulated inflation up to June reaches 3.36%.
By components, the household category led the monthly increases with 0.63%, followed by personal expenses (0.25%), as well as furniture and health (both with 0.23%). In contrast, food and beverages (-0.24%) and education (-0.02%) registered decreases, while clothing and transportation became more expensive by 0.17% each.
In this context, the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) agreed in June to a 25 basis point interest rate cut, placing them at 14.25%, a level not seen since May 2025. The body justified this decision in a scenario of "uncertainty" with the aim of "tempering economic fluctuations" and favoring full employment.
