Club Med has announced an agreement with the real estate investment trust VICI Properties for the acquisition and comprehensive renovation of the Carambola Beach Resort, located in St. Croix (Virgin Islands).
With this operation, the tourism chain resumes its presence on the coast of the United States. VICI, the new owner of the historic complex, will assume the financing of the modernization works.
The establishment will reopen under the name Club Med St. Croix, will have 150 rooms, and will be operated by the company within its high-end "Exclusive Collection" line.
The president and CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean, Carolyne Doyon, has emphasized that this project represents "a new and exciting chapter" for the firm in the American continent.
Likewise, VICI President John Payne has expressed his satisfaction at starting an alliance with a leading brand in the luxury all-inclusive segment.
The resort, originally built in 1986 by Laurance Rockefeller, is located between a Caribbean beach and a rainforest area, and will orient its proposal towards a sustainable hospitality model.
The planned schedule contemplates the start of the construction phase in the summer of 2026 and the official inauguration in the fourth quarter of 2027.
According to the promoters' estimates, the renovation and reopening of the complex will generate around 200 direct jobs and at least another 200 indirect jobs on the island.
The Governor of the Virgin Islands, Albert Bryan Jr., has celebrated this milestone and has assured that the implementation of the brand will contribute to economic revitalization and the promotion of responsible tourism in the territory.
