The businessman Joan Antoni Pujals i Vallhonrat, "essential figure in the process of constitution and birth" of Cecot, has passed away at 100 years old, according to what the employers' association communicated this Sunday.
Cecot has extended its condolences to the family and its closest circle for the death of the historic businessman this Saturday, and has highlighted that Pujals was a "key piece" in the consolidation of the associative model that the Egarense business organization embodies today.
The entity has highlighted that "his global vision, his criteria and his way of doing things, always oriented towards the common good and the interest of the city, decisively contributed to making possible the sum of efforts and the configuration of a solid business organization."
Likewise, the employers' association has recalled that his contribution to the union of different business entities in 1978, which led to the creation of Cecot, "is today a legacy that remains valid."
The organization wanted to highlight his spirit of service, his commitment to institutions and his determination to promote the economic and social progress of Terrassa, bidding farewell to someone who decisively helped lay the foundations of the entity.
Professional career and institutional commitment
Pujals (Terrassa, 1926-2026) began his professional career in the textile sector, an activity he maintained until the floods of September 1962 in Terrassa severely affected his company.
After that episode, he reoriented his work towards the institutional, social and community sphere, without losing the close link with the business fabric of the city.
In 1964 he joined the municipal government of Terrassa, where he assumed responsibilities in the area of Governance, while actively participating in various economic and supramunicipal bodies.
For more than thirty years he was linked to the Institut Industrial, a reference entity for the Egarense business community, and his intervention was decisive in the creation of Cecot. In addition, he presided over the Cambra de Propietat Urbana de Terrassa i Comarca and the Fundació Busquets de Sant Vicenç de Paül.
Throughout his career he received recognitions such as the Medalla President Macià de la Generalitat, the Gold Insignia of the Cambra de Comerç de Terrassa and the Paul Harris award from the Rotary Club de Terrassa.
