81% of Spanish investors already allocate part of their capital or plan to do so in the next 12 months to companies related to artificial intelligence (AI), according to a survey conducted by the investment platform Lightyear.

The report indicates that this appetite for AI is part of a broader vision regarding the role of technology as a driver of growth in the medium and long term.

In detail, 54% of the survey participants believe that the technology and telecommunications sector will offer the highest returns in the next five years, reinforcing the importance of technological innovation within portfolios.

Lightyear's internal figures on its clients' operations reflect the extent to which AI has been gaining ground among Spanish investors on the platform.

37% have traded securities directly linked to this field, either through shares of large technology companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, or Palantir, or through thematic ETFs focused on semiconductors, automation, and AI, such as VanEck Semiconductor, iShares S&P 500 Information Technology, or Xtrackers Artificial Intelligence & Big Data.

In this context, Nvidia stands out as the most acquired individual stock by Spanish users, with an average amount per investor exceeding 7,000 dollars (6,059 euros).

The interest in AI, however, is not limited to large technology firms, but extends to different links in the value chain of this industry.

Among the most popular positions among Spanish investors are memory chip manufacturers like Micron, companies specializing in machinery for semiconductor production like ASML, companies linked to the energy infrastructure necessary for data centers like Constellation Energy or Vertiv, as well as cloud data solutions like Snowflake.

AI AS SUPPORT FOR DECISION-MAKING

The study also reveals that artificial intelligence is beginning to have a presence in the investment process itself.

According to the Lightyear survey, 49.7% of investors believe that this technology should serve as support in financial decision-making as a complement to traditional analysis, while more than half claim to feel reasonably capable of investing without external help.

For many of these savers, the main value of AI lies in organizing information, facilitating analysis, and reducing market complexity, without replacing personal judgment or final responsibility for each decision.
