The Federation of Associations of Senior Bodies of the Civil Administration of the State (Fedeca) has called on public employees to step forward and report any bad practices they are aware of, with the aim of protecting and preserving the quality of public services.
The organization maintains in a statement that the defense of public services requires "active commitment" to institutional integrity. At the same time, it warns that certain behaviors that "seriously erode trust in institutions cannot be normalized or accepted with resignation."
In this line, he underlines that true professionalism is not limited to "getting the daily work done," but also implies "not looking the other way" when irregularities such as corruption, embezzlement, discrimination, workplace or sexual harassment, ageism, accessibility barriers, or violations regarding work-life balance are detected, which can occur at different levels of the public sector.
Fedeca also recalls that specific mechanisms exist to guarantee the confidentiality and protection of those who report, including the whistleblower channel available on the intranets of ministries and other public bodies.
Furthermore, it points out that professional associations and trade union organizations are willing to guide and advise those who decide to report, and emphasizes that complaints can also be filed with the Independent Authority for the Protection of Whistleblowers.
The federation concludes that the majority of public employees constitute "the main dike of containment against arbitrariness, abuse, and corruption" and that strengthening a professional public service "is reinforcing democratic quality and the protection of the general interest".
