The union of technicians of the Ministry of Finance (Gestha) has supported the European Commission's orientation regarding the response to the crisis derived from the war in Iran, focused on direct aid and selective tax incentives, and has called for, within the framework of the "AccelerateEU" measures, an definitive end to generalized VAT reductions due to their ineffectiveness and regressive nature.

In a statement, Hacienda technicians have examined the document "AccelerateEU", presented by the European Commission to address the energy crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East, which has already generated an additional cost of 24 billion euros in European Union imports.

Gestha understands that this set of initiatives represents an essential turning point by prioritizing direct aid and specific tax incentives compared to broad tax reductions, which have proven to be "palliative and inefficient".

However, the union has shown its disappointment because Brussels has not included in this package the boost to teleworking, which it considers an essential tool to rationalize the consumption and cost of fuels and energy, both in the private sector and in public administrations, in line with the recommendations of the International Energy Agency.
