The board of directors of Endesa has given the green light to the appointment of Gianni Vittorio Armani as the new chief executive officer of the electric company, replacing José Bogas, who this Tuesday put an end to 12 years at the helm of the energy company as chief executive, as the company communicated to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
Armani has been the candidate finally designated by Enel, the main shareholder of Endesa with 70% of its capital, to lead the coming stage of the Spanish electricity company. Until now, he served as director of Enel Grids e Innovation since July 2023, after previously taking over the direction of Enel Grids in June of the same year.
The Italian executive, who was already part of Endesa's board of directors, is an electrical engineer from La Sapienza University of Rome and completed his training in business administration and finance with an MBA from MIT in Boston.
Likewise, since December 2024, he has held the presidency of Elettricità Futura, the largest association in the electricity sector in Italy, which integrates manufacturers, distribution companies, and service companies, and of which Enel is also a part.
Before joining Enel, he held the position of CEO and General Manager of Iren SpA from 2021, where he led the listed 'multi-utility' on the Italian Stock Exchange and achieved historic results in 2022, with 1.1 billion euros in operating gross profit (Ebitda) and 1.5 billion euros in investments.
In 2020 he served as Director of Strategy, Regulation and Business Development at A2A, contributing to the development and implementation of the 2021-2030 industrial plan. Between 2015 and 2018 he was Chairman and CEO of Anas SpA, guiding the company in its integration into the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group.
Prior to 2005, he developed his career at Grtn (Gestore della Rete Elettrica Nazionale) until its merger with Terna, where he assumed, among other responsibilities, the launch of the IPEX market and the coordination of the national plan after the 'black-out'. His professional career also includes experience in strategic consulting at McKinsey & Company and at Telecom Italia.
