Astilleros Gondan has signed a new contract to build another offshore tugboat destined for a Norwegian shipping company. It will be the second vessel of this type ordered by the same Scandinavian owner, bringing the total number of jointly developed units to 23.
This new tugboat, which follows the Skipsteknisk ST-933 design and is a sister ship to the one agreed upon last November, will be 50 meters long, 17 meters wide, and have a bollard pull of 150 tons, features that will allow it to operate in particularly demanding marine scenarios.
The vessel will feature a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, which provides high precision and maneuverability, in addition to a configuration that allows for towing operations both forward and aft using a single, high-power combined winch.
The project incorporates improvements focused on efficiency and sustainability, including a hull with a hydrodynamic design optimized through computer simulations and a hybrid plant with a direct current electrical distribution network. Furthermore, it will be prepared for future use of methanol as fuel, thus facilitating the reduction of emissions and the integration of new energy solutions, such as batteries or fuel cells, without significant structural changes.
The shipyard emphasizes that this new order further consolidates the relationship with the Norwegian owner, based on cooperation and the development of high value-added vessels, in addition to reinforcing the shared commitment to advanced technologies applied to the offshore sector.
