IndraMind Cybersecurity has begun to implement 'Smart Borders' in the Port of Alicante, an "advanced" solution designed to digitize border control and that "streamlines, makes more efficient and provides maximum security to the process and transit of passengers".
The project includes the installation of self-service kiosks, automatic border control gates, assisted control posts and "latest generation" biometric technology integrated into specific containers adapted to this environment, as detailed by the company in a statement released this Monday.
Given the "marked increase" in the volume of travelers in recent years, the Port Authority of Alicante has decided to incorporate the new European border control systems, with the aim of consolidating the enclosure as "a safe and modern entry" to the Schengen area and ensuring "a reliable, automated identity verification in line with the most demanding international standards".
The president of the Port Authority, Luis Rodríguez, has stressed that this initiative is part of the "commitment" of the Port of Alicante with "the continuous improvement of its operations and the reinforcement of security in a strategic enclave for maritime mobility in the Mediterranean".
Rodríguez added that the goal is to provide "a more agile and efficient service to passengers", while "access flows" are improved and "a more modern and orderly management" is promoted in the facilities.
According to the entity, the solution is designed to cover "from beginning to end" the border control process through the use of facial and fingerprint biometrics, the "advanced" verification of travel documents and the "full" interoperability with national and European systems.
The global director of Cybersecurity at IndraMind, Roberto Espina, has considered that this implementation strengthens them as "a key player and a reference technological partner in the digital protection of European borders".
