The Council of Ministers has given the green light this Tuesday to the appointment of Ricardo Cuesta as the new Director General of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), replacing Gerardo Gutiérrez, who has held this responsibility for eight years.

Until now, Cuesta served as Deputy Director General of Statistics and Information of the SEPE, a position from which he was responsible for the coordination of the Information System of Public Employment Services (Sispe), as well as the evaluation and statistical tasks of the National Employment System, the promotion of the Observatory of Occupations, and coordination with the public employment services of the autonomous communities.

A career civil servant, he began his professional career in 1994 linked to public employment policies, labor relations, public management, local development, and legal advice in these areas.

Since March 2020, he was the provincial director of the SEPE in Madrid and, prior to that, he worked as a technician in the City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz between 1998 and 2019, where he developed a large part of his professional life, as well as in the City Council of Madrid between 1994 and 1997.

For ten years he has taught at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in the field of Labor and Social Security Law, and has collaborated as a trainer of public employees in employment and training policies for more than two decades.
