Nvidia has communicated that it will support the establishment of a data center in the state of Ohio (USA) with up to 105 billion dollars (around 90.6 billion euros). The complex will be built and managed by the company SB Energy, while its main user will be the artificial intelligence 'startup' OpenAI, which will exploit it through a 20-year lease contract.

According to the documentation sent by Nvidia to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the total funding could exceed 90 billion euros. This financial commitment is conditioned on specific requirements, including that SB Energy guarantees the provision of services through the data center starting in 2028.

The future technology campus Ports-Pike, located in Ohio, is born with the aim of covering the strong demand for infrastructure for AI and "will lay the groundwork for future advancements, allowing communities to drive scientific discovery, advancements in healthcare, and regional economic development," according to a statement released by Nvidia.

The complex will start with an initial capacity of 4.25 gigawatts (GW), expandable by another 3.75 GW, so it could reach a maximum of 8 GW. The first 800 megawatts (MW) would be available in 2028, which will allow for a gradual scaling of computing power.

Forecasts indicate that the project will generate 35,000 jobs related to construction over the six years of development, until 2032, in addition to 2,500 permanent jobs for the operational phase. At the same time, OpenAI will allocate about 84 million dollars (72 million euros) so that university students in Ohio can access ChatGPT tools.

In parallel, Nvidia will invest 1.5 billion dollars (about 1.3 billion euros) in SB Energy to bolster its growth and help it consolidate as one of the leading developers of AI infrastructure on a global scale.

"We are ensuring a lasting infrastructure for Nvidia computing, so that OpenAI can implement the most productive AI factories, which can be repeatedly upgraded with each new generation, offering greater intelligence and better profitability," emphasized Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.

"This will be a huge center, with enough computing capacity to help millions of people use AI to perform tasks that today we can barely imagine, from discovering new medicines to creating companies and solving complex problems," said OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman.

"Infrastructure is vital for the AI economy. Together with SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and Nvidia, SB Energy is building energy-centered infrastructure on an unprecedented scale, while strengthening the communities that make it possible: protecting consumers, creating tens of thousands of well-paying jobs, and investing in infrastructure to revitalize southern Ohio, which has long shaped the future of the United States," emphasized SB Energy co-CEO, Rich Hossfeld.
