The general secretary of CCOO, Unai Sordo, announced this Thursday that he will demand from the leadership of ArcelorMittal the definition of a concrete industrial project for Asturias in the meeting he will hold this afternoon with the multinational's CEO.

From Oviedo, in a press conference, Sordo explained that he will insist to the company on the importance of consolidating the planned investments in order to ensure both the continuity of the activity and the maintenance of employment at Arcelor.

"The Government has put a very relevant amount of money towards that energy transition, which is pending the final decision of the investor," the union leader recalled, underlining the public commitment to the modernization of the sector.

As he pointed out, Arcelor "has to rise to the occasion" of the challenge of guaranteeing the future of its facilities in Asturias. "Our pressure and our demand will be that these investments be consolidated and guaranteed to transform the energy model of a steel mill that can be competitive," he said, warning afterwards: "If not, we will have to consider other scenarios."
