The airport of Castellón has reached in August the best monthly record since its inception, counting 52,337 passengers and surpassing for the first time the threshold of 50,000 users in a single month. Likewise, in 2027 it will increase its offer with the Balearic Islands through more flights to Palma de Mallorca and the opening of a new connection with Ibiza.
This has been announced by the third vice president and conseller of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, who has appeared at the airport of Castellón alongside the general director of Aerocas, Raquel París, to carry out the balance of the summer campaign. The general director of Coasts, Ports and Airports, Marc García, has also joined the event.
The conseller has emphasized that the figures obtained "confirm the excellent moment that the airport of Castellón is going through, the best in its history, and the dynamics of sustained and continuous growth." "All the objectives we set at the beginning of the legislature have been met, breaking a new record every month, both in operations, as well as in passengers and in routes," he said.
Martínez Mus has highlighted the milestone that represents "having surpassed for the first time the barrier of 50,000 passengers in a month," since, in his words, it evidences "the consolidation of the airport of Castellón as a strategic infrastructure for connectivity, tourism and the economic development of the territory." In his opinion, this historical maximum "is the result of the work done by Aerocas and the Generalitat to expand the offer of routes, attract new opportunities and respond to a growing demand."
The 52,337 passengers in August imply a year-on-year advance of 16.5 percent. In the accumulated total of the first eight months of 2026, 249,593 travelers have been registered, which represents an increase of 12.6% compared to the same period of 2025. In this regard, the general director of Aerocas, Raquel París, has emphasized that the goal of surpassing the result of 2025 and reaching a new annual maximum is being fulfilled.
In August, a record of operations has also been achieved, with 1,816 aircraft movements and a year-on-year increase of 66.6%. Between January and August, there are a total of 10,351 movements, with a 20% increase compared to the same interval of 2025.
More flights with the Balearic Islands starting in 2027
Martínez Mus has indicated that also "work is being done on the new incorporations, new routes for the upcoming season" and has advanced that in the summer of 2027 the airport of Castellón will reinforce its link with the Balearic Islands, in collaboration with the airline Air Nostrum.
On one hand, the Castellón-Palma de Mallorca route will almost double its operations compared to this summer, going from 14 to 26 frequencies, which means a total of 52 flights adding both directions. The service will be maintained for 13 weeks, from mid-June to early September.
On the other hand, the airline Air Nostrum will launch a new route with Ibiza, which will be available in the weeks of highest demand of the summer season. Specifically, it will operate for four weeks in August with a weekly frequency.
