The president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Nadia Calviño, begins her first official visit to Mexico this Monday with the aim of reinforcing cooperation between the European Union and this "strategic partner" in a context of "intense global change".
As stated in a press release from the bank itself, during the trip the EIB will sign an agreement with the Mexican Government to support the country's climate action commitments and its main social investment programs. This framework of collaboration will channel resources towards sectors that are decisive for "solid growth" and long-term sustainability.
In parallel, the EIB will seal an expanded collaboration with a Mexican public authority in the energy sector, with the aim of underpinning projects already underway related to the energy transition and the modernization of the system.
Over the next two days, Calviño will hold meetings with the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum; the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard; the Secretary of Energy, Luz Elena González; the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Edgar Amador Zamora; and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Velasco.
"Mexico is a priority partner for the European Union. From the European Investment Bank, we are prepared to boost this alliance with financing for strategic projects in key areas such as energy or transport, improving the lives of citizens," Calviño stated.
The former Vice President of the Spanish Government and former Minister of Economy until 2023 will also take advantage of her stay in the Mexican capital to attend the CEAPI Congress, considered the main business forum in Latin America and which is being held in Mexico City this year.
Likewise, she is scheduled to speak at the Mexican Senate within the framework of the Eurolat forum, an assembly that brings together MEPs and representatives from the parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean and which is now commemorating its twentieth anniversary.
