The Council of Ministers has given the green light for the autonomous communities of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands to arrange new short-term debt operations, within the framework of what is provided for in the Organic Law on Budgetary Stability and Financial Sustainability and the Organic Law on Financing of the Autonomous Communities.

In the case of Catalonia, the central Executive authorizes the signing of these operations for a maximum amount of 3,185 million euros, an amount requested by the community itself and which will be used to cover the maturities foreseen in the second half of 2026, including the payment obligations of entities dependent on the Generalitat.

In parallel, the Government has authorized the Balearic Islands to contract short-term debt for up to 450 million euros, which will be used to meet the maturities of this type of liability during the first fortnight of July 2026.

Likewise, the Council of Ministers has agreed to modify the decision adopted on February 17 and to raise the volume of re-guarantees authorized for the affected autonomous community to 1.5 million, keeping the rest of the terms set in said agreement intact.
