The electricity bill that an electro-intensive company faces in Spain is 55% higher than in France and 8% higher than in Germany, according to the barometer prepared by the Association of Companies with High Energy Consumption (AEGE).

In detail, the final price of energy for the electro-intensive industry in Spain at the end of July reached 83.1 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), that is, 1.5 times the 53.69 euros/MWh recorded in France and 1.08 times the 76.77 euros/MWh of Germany.

AEGE emphasized that large industrial consumers in Spain bear additional costs for system adjustment services that are not taken into account in France and Germany, which increases the competitive disadvantage by more than 20 euros/MWh.

Likewise, the association pointed out that the compensations for indirect CO2 that German electro-intensive industries receive are much higher than those received by the Spanish industry, limited by the lack of budget availability.

In this regard, AEGE calculated that in Germany electro-intensive plants enjoy compensations above those in Spain by an additional amount of 21 euros/MWh.
